Reel introduction

Thank you for choosing a Svivlo reel.

Everything you need to set up, use, and care for your reel.

Which reel did you unbox?

Setup

Nothing to set up.

Your Genesis ONE ships factory-set and ready to fish. Spool up your line and cast.

No tension adjustment is needed under normal use. Occasional checks are preferred — confirm sideways play hasn't developed over time. If the spool moves sideways, tighten the tension knob until movement stops. No more.

The only time setup is revisited is if the sideplate has been opened. When that happens, close it, confirm no sideways play, and you're done.

You don't adjust the reel during normal fishing. Setup is only revisited if the sideplate is opened.

1

Sideplate release

Opens the sideplate for initial setup only.

2

Tension knob

Factory-set. Only revisited if the sideplate is opened.

3

Drag star

12 kg / 27 lbs max. Adjust for the fish you're targeting.

4

Handle

Available in left or right orientation depending on your configuration.

5

CastGuard™ mechanism

Internal. Responds to lure pull, not spool speed. No user adjustment.

6

Spool

Line capacity varies by line weight — see the Compatible gear section.

Care & maintenance

Care for what you fish.

Two routines. One after every use, one every two weeks if you fish often. That's it.

After every session

1
Inspect the reel for anything visibly off. If something's wrong, contact your dealer or Svivlo Support.
2
Tighten the spool tension cap and star drag before rinsing.
3
Rinse gently with fresh drinking water — slow running water or a spray bottle. Never submerge.
4
Wipe down the exterior with a soft cloth. Microfiber preferred. Remove dirt, sand, salt, and debris.
5
Clean stubborn spots with a cotton swab or soft toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol.
6
Loosen the star drag for storage so the drag washers aren't compressed long-term.

Every 2 weeks (regular use) or monthly (occasional use)

1
Apply reel oil to visible bearings and the worm gear. Use a high-quality fishing reel oil (Super Lube is a common choice) — or ask your dealer. Do not oil the spool axle or the CastGuard axle.
2
Clean the pinion gear:
  • Remove the sideplate and gently lift out the spool.
  • Use a cotton swab to clean the pinion gear and any visible dirt.
  • Inspect and clean the spool assembly.
  • Do not lubricate the spool shaft.
3
Reassemble the spool and sideplate. Confirm the spool axle aligns properly with the CastGuard axle.
4
Close the sideplate and confirm no sideways spool play. Tighten the tension knob if needed.
5
Lubricate the stabilizer bar (Part #64). Reference the schematics PDF for location.
  • Clean the stabilizer bar and remove visible debris.
  • Apply a thin layer of high-quality reel grease (Super Lube is a common choice).
  • Rotate the handle to distribute grease evenly.
  • Wipe away any excess grease.

After saltwater use

Rinse gently with fresh water immediately — never submerge. Dry thoroughly before storage. The reel is rated for light saltwater, not heavy saltwater exposure.

When to send it in

If the reel develops play, grinding, or inconsistent drag that persists after cleaning. For anything structural, contact our support team rather than disassembling beyond the sideplate yourself.

What never to do

  • Don't disassemble the CastGuard mechanism — it's calibrated at the factory.
  • Don't oil the spool axle or the CastGuard axle.
  • Don't submerge the reel in water.
  • Don't use WD-40 or general-purpose lubricants — use reel oil only.
  • Don't leave a wet reel in a closed tackle box or bag.
  • Don't over-tighten the tension knob.
Every reel and fishing situation is different. These steps are guidance, not absolutes — if something feels wrong or you're unsure, contact Svivlo Support before proceeding.

Troubleshooting

Something feels off?

Most issues come down to a few common causes. Find yours below.

CastGuard removes the expectation of constant backlash prevention, but it doesn't eliminate all possible overruns. Backlash can still occur at the edge of normal operation: extremely jerky casting input, lure pull collapsing immediately after launch, the lure stopping abruptly against an obstruction, or casting far outside the reel's normal operating range. These represent the boundary of the system, not normal fishing.

Some break-in is normal during the first 20–50 casts. Bearings seat, components settle. After that, feel should be consistent. If it feels progressively rougher, grinding, or looser over time — that's a service indicator, not break-in.

Cut and remove the tangled section. Re-spool with the line pulled taut through the rod guides, winding evenly across the spool. Avoid overfilling — keep line level roughly 2-3 mm below the spool edge.

Don't open the reel. Rattling can indicate an internal component has come loose — this is a service issue. Contact Customer Service for a warranty assessment.

Re-confirm tension after closing the sideplate. Any time the plate comes off, re-check sideways spool play and tighten until movement stops — no more. This is the only situation where you revisit setup.

Warranty

Covered where it matters.

2 Years

International warranty on every Genesis ONE reel against manufacturing defects.

30 Days

Money-back guarantee from the date of purchase.

SE Service

Spare parts in stock and responsive after-sales support.

What's covered: Manufacturing defects. Material or assembly issues appearing under normal use.

What's not covered: Wear from misuse, impact damage, saltwater corrosion from prolonged saltwater exposure, or unauthorized modifications.

To make a claim, contact Customer Service → by filling out the warranty form and a description of the issue.

Long-term storage

Between seasons.

Before storing your reel for more than a few weeks:

  • Clean and dry thoroughly. Any residual moisture trapped during storage will cause corrosion.
  • Back off the drag. Loosen the drag star completely so the drag washers don't stay compressed for months.
  • Store indoors. Stable room temperature. Avoid garages with humidity swings, direct sunlight, or freezing temperatures.
  • Consider the Neoprene Reel Cover. Dust and bumps accumulate in tackle boxes. The cover protects both.

Compatible gear

What works with Genesis ONE.

Lure weight range (reference): ~¾ oz – 7 oz. Anglers routinely fish outside this range. It's a reference point, not a limit.

Line recommendations: Monofilament 15–30 lb, fluorocarbon 15–25 lb, or braid 40–80 lb. Heavier line supports the load-dominant contexts Genesis is built for.

Rod compatibility: Medium-heavy to heavy baitcasting rods, 7' and longer. Match your rod to the lure weight and species you're fishing.

Spool capacity: See the product page for detailed line capacity tables.
